YOVNGCHIMI, rising rapper and the face of Puerto Rico’s Latin drill scene, is Audiomack’s latest #UpNow artist.

Debuting only two years ago, YOVNGCHIMI’s ability to bridge the gap between the street cultures of Puerto Rico and the United States has led to a swift rise. He was named one of Audiomack Latin’s 10 Artists You Should Know in April 2022, and spit an exclusive freestyle for Prende La Cabina in June of that year. Standout singles “Diamantes en Mis Dientes” and “Baby Father 2.0” were both given Audiomack’s Best of the Week honors in November 2022 and January 2023, respectively.

In May, YOVNGCHIMI made history by becoming the first Latin artist to release a Gangsta Grillz mixtape, entitled Mvrda Gvng. The collaboration with legendary mixtape titan DJ Drama was also his first official body of work, stamping his impact on the Puerto Rican scene while breaking open barriers to an American audience he sees as key to his eventual worldwide takeover.

“You can create music in English as well as in Spanish,” YOVNGCHIMI says about what he wants fans to take away from Mvrda Gvng. “You can collaborate with Americans while singing in Spanish and make it a single genre. Not necessarily because it's two different languages does it mean that you have to separate the genres.”

YOVNGCHIMI is the cover artist of Audiomack’s official #UpNow playlist and joins past #UpNow artists Omah Lay, GloRilla, Ayra Starr, and more.

“[Being #UpNow] means we are at the top. We made it and we are not stopping,” YOVNGCHIMI says regarding his #UpNow selection. “Audiomack has been supporting us from the beginning. They put up my music, they put the music on playlists… Audiomack is a platform that is big now in the Latin community, so I feel like they helped us a lot because they gave us that push.”

En Mayo, YOVNGCHIMI hizo historia al convertirse en el primer artista latino en lanzar una mixtape de Gangsta Grillz, titulada Mvrda Gvng. La colaboración con el legendario titán de mixtape DJ Drama también fue su primera compilación de trabajo oficial, marcando su impacto en la escena puertorriqueña y rompiendo barreras para una audiencia Americana que él ve como clave para su eventual conquista mundial.

“Puedes crear música en inglés tanto como en español,” dice YOVNGCHIMI sobre lo que quiere que los fanáticos se lleven de Mvrda Gvng. “Puedes colaborar con Americanos cantando en español y que sea un solo género. No necesariamente porque sean dos idiomas diferentes hay que separar los géneros.”
